All schools in England are inspected by Ofsted but as a Church school we are also inspected by The Church of England and their inspection processes is called SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools).
Please find below the latest reports following inspections from Ofsted and SIAMS. We are very proud of both reports as they really do capture the ethos and recognise what a really good school St John's is.
Ofsted
Ofsted is a non-ministerial department of His Majesties Government and as a school that is overall graded as GOOD we should next be inspected within 4 years.
There are two types of inspection: Graded (Section 5 of the Education Act) or Ungraded (Section 8 of the Education Act). Following the inspection schools schools are awarded a one word judgement based on all the evidence the inspectors have found throughout the inspection.
These are:
Grade 1 - Outstanding
Grade 2 - Good
Grade 3 - Requires Improvement
Grade 4 - Inadequate
Only schools with an overall grade of 'Good' or 'Outstanding' can have an 'ungraded' inspection. These inspections are just as rigorous as the graded inspections but the inspectors are looking for evidence to prove that you still hold the same accreditation that was awarded previously.
The Ofsted framework changes often and the evidence based judgments made under previous frameworks might not obtain the same judgements in new frameworks. To maintain a judgement schools must constantly evolve and adapt their procedures to ensure they are still the grading given.
Our last inspection was an ungraded inspection and we maintained all our previous ratings.
These are:
Quality of Education: Good
Behaviour and Attitudes: Outstanding
Personal Development: Outstanding
Leadership and Management: Good
Early Years Provision: Good
We are therefore classified as a GOOD school overall.
We are extremely proud of this report and feel it really recognises the hard work of pupils and staff, the caring nature of the school and sums the school up perfectly.
The extracts below emphasis this:
"St John’s is a calm and happy place where pupils are confident to be themselves. Pupils learn in a caring and accepting environment. Pupils have positive relationships with staff. They trust adults to help them with their concerns or worries. As a result, pupils feel safe. Pupils behave consistently well. From early years onwards, they show the school’s values of kindness, perseverance, truthfulness, responsibility and respect in all they do."
"Staff are proud to work at St John’s."

SIAMS
SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. It is the system used by the Church of England and Methodist Church to evaluate how effectively Church schools are living up to their foundation and enabling pupils and adults to flourish through a theologically rooted Christian vision.
Church schools are now inspected under the 2023 SIAMS Framework, which focuses on six Inspection Questions (IQs) exploring how each school’s Christian vision shapes all aspects of its life and work. Inspectors consider:
How the Christian vision enables pupils and adults to flourish.
How the curriculum reflects the school’s vision.
How collective worship enables spiritual flourishing.
How the vision shapes relationships, wellbeing and inclusion.
How the vision inspires justice, responsibility and courageous advocacy.
The effectiveness of Religious Education.
The inspection no longer gives a single graded outcome such as “Good” or “Outstanding.” Instead, schools receive one of two overall statements:
J1: The school is living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish.
J2: The school has strengths but also issues that leaders need to address as a matter of priority.
We are delighted that our most recent SIAMS inspection (October 2025) found that St John’s Church of England Primary School is living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish.
The report highlights that:
“The vision shapes the daily life of the school. It is lived out across the community, enabling pupils and adults to shine.”
“Engaging collective worship has a powerful impact on pupils and adults.”
“The rich curriculum nurtures pupils’ gifts and strengths, especially for those who are vulnerable or have SEND.”
“Caring and inclusive relationships provide the foundation for mutual flourishing across the school.”
The inspection also recognised areas for further development, including embedding our shared understanding of spirituality and continuing to deepen pupils’ awareness of justice and responsibility.
We are extremely proud of this report, which celebrates the strength of our vision:
“Learn Together, Achieve Together, Celebrate Together – and let your light shine.” (Matthew 5:16)
